University of Arizona Recreation Center Inclusive Swim Camp

About

University of Arizona Department of Psychology and Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities researchers Alison Luongo and Jamie Edgin, PhD, (PI) have partnered with the University of Arizona Recreation Center to offer swim lessons for individuals with Down syndrome.

This project involves providing technical assistance to the University Recreation Center to ensure inclusive programming in their swim programs, including providing training to staff and volunteers on diversity, inclusive practices, and strategies to working with children with behavioral concerns who attend their summer camps and other educational programs. A funded research project on exercise outcomes is currently embedded in the project to measure the effect on sleep and cognitive outcomes.
