The University of Arizona Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities is collaborating with the Institute on Community Integration at the University of Minnesota’s Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Outcome Measurement (RTC/OM) on a national field study of person-centered HCBS outcome measures. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the reliability, validity, and sensitivity to change of Person-Centered Outcome Measures that were developed by RTC/OM. Interviews assess measures RTC/OM developed that focus on six outcome areas. Multiple locations throughout the US are conducting the same interview procedures with a total of 1000 participants throughout the country. Arizona’s participation involves 3 systematic interviews with 100 individuals who receive HCBS in the state spread out over one year. The data collected across all sites will be analyzed together to see how well the measures identify which kinds of supports are most important to people with disabilities. Ultimately the research will help federal, state, and local governments to improve the Home and Community services that they provide.
