Exploring and Identifying Communities Where I Belong

An Arts-Based, Person-Centered Book Making Workshop Research Project

About

Exploring and Identifying Communities Where I Belong: Arts-Based, Person-Centered Book Making Workshop is a collaboration research project between Opportunity Tree and the University of Arizona Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities, ArtWorks. Through 8-weekly, 90 minute group workshops, participants with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities will develop a concrete, visual personal information book containing important elements of their lives, with which they can expand their connections and navigate their adult and aging life more independently. Using various artistic mediums and forms of expression (e.g., drawings, photos, logos/symbols, gestures, etc.), participants will be able to explore their ideas/needs/wants in a way they haven’t been able to previously.
