Director, Sonoran University Center for Excellence in Disabilities and Faculty Position in Family and Community Medicine

The University of Arizona is pleased to announce that an opening for a full-time position as Director of the Sonoran University Center on Disabilities (UCEDD) with a faculty appointment in the Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) in the College of Medicine. Note: Faculty rank and career or tenure-track position dependent on accomplishments and experience.

Since its establishment as a federally designated Center for Excellence in 2006, the Sonoran UCEDD has successfully leveraged university, state, national funding and community collaborations to build a strong and vibrant center with priority areas in health services and health promotion, successful transitions to adulthood and employment, diverse communities and aging and disability. The UCEDD has a committed, enthusiastic and dedicated staff and the opportunity to build on a wide array of existing programs, incubate new initiatives and to make a local and statewide impact on the quality of lives of people with disabilities and their families. Candidates will be expected to have significant leadership and academic experience in the disability field. A terminal degree, such as an MD, PhD, or JD is required. This includes a record of funded and published research/scholarship, teaching and mentoring and progressively responsible management and leadership positions.


Provide effective leadership to advance knowledge, expertise, and understanding of disability issues, policies, and best practices by:

Advancing Sonoran UCEDD’s research, scholarship, and knowledge translation activities including seeking extramural funding for research, training and technical assistance;

Providing effective leadership and managerial oversight of the UCEDD’s grants, projects and infrastructure, including leveraging other resources to grow existing programs and develop new ones;

Serving as liaison with state and national organizations, including the DD Network in Arizona (AZ Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, Arizona Center for Disability Law and NAU Institute on Human Development), Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), and other disability and self-advocacy groups;

Engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders within the University and state, including relevant departments and colleges, state agencies, foundations, and other organizations;

Participating in teaching and mentoring activities of the UCEDD including with UCEDD trainees, health sciences students and professionals, as well as, other learners in area(s) of expertise.
