Join us for a presentation with Native Initiatives Program Director, Agnes Attakai. We will uncover how mental health includes how people feel, think, and react. More than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness. Research shows that American Indians and Alaska Natives experience higher rates of serious mental illness than almost all other ethnic groups. Despite this, the resiliency of Native people reflects growth and the use of culture, community, and connection to combat the effects of mental illness.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about the protective factors across three identified domains (social, psychological, and cultural/spiritual)
Summarize documented relationships between resilience factors and health outcomes for American Indian and Alaska Native peoples
Analyze how interventions can optimize health and well-being in American Indian and Alaska Native peoples.
