Future Care Planning: A Roadmap of Our Future, Our Wishes

Sonoran UCEDD Updates
Spring 2017

future care planning: a roadmap of our futures, our wishesThe Future Care Planning Roadmap project began in 2007 with interviews with over 25 family caregivers in Arizona. In 2016 and 2017, additional support was received from the Arizona Developmental Disabilities Planning Council to expand conversations with individuals with IDD and their family members about their wishes for their futures and their experiences with the planning process. As a result, over 60 interviews with individuals with a disability and their family members have helped to inform the creation of the Future Care Planning: A Roadmap of Our Futures, Our Wishes. The Roadmap will be available in English and Spanish at the end of the project in December 2017. A focus for this year is the identification of trainers who will join the project team and be involved in the creation and delivery of a total of six, two and a half hour classes for community support staff and family caregivers. Three classes will be designed for support staff and three will address the specific needs of family caregivers. The classes will be held in Pima and Maricopa County. The target date for the classes will be April to June. Flyers about the classes will be available on the Sonoran UCEDD website.
