Each DD Network Newsletter will highlight a staff member from one of the partnering agencies to recognize their hard work and dedication in exemplifying the mission of the Network to work collectively and collaboratively to foster the independence, advocacy and community integration of individuals with developmental disabilities.  This edition spotlights Arizona Center for Disability Law Senior Staff Advocate, Renaldo Fowler.

Renaldo FowlerRenaldo Fowler is a Senior Staff Advocate with the Arizona Center for Disability Law where he has been employed since 1984. The Center serves as the Protection and Advocacy system for persons with Developmental Disabilities in the State of Arizona. Renaldo has a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Arizona State University and has worked in the disability field for the past 25 years. Renaldo has worked extensively with laws affecting students with disabilities within the educational system.

Renaldo has successfully spearheaded trainings specifically related to special education, and most recently, positive behavior supports relating to restraint and seclusion in schools. He collaborates with other partners within the Arizona Developmental Disabilities network to reach underserved or unserved communities in the state, providing day-long workshops for parents of students in special education and professionals who work in the special education field. Since September of last year, he has provided workshops in Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, and on the Hon-Dah Indian Reservation in Pinetop-Lakeside. Each workshop was an overwhelming success as evidenced by the participants’ responses to post-workshop surveys and on-line surveys. On September 22, 2010, Renaldo with the aid of his colleagues will present a workshop on Positive Behavior Supports to Prevent Restraint and Seclusion in Schools solely for Spanish-speaking parents and professionals.
