Special Education Learning Experiences for Competency in Teaching (SELECT) is a federally funded program sponsored by the Arizona Department of Education in partnership with the Institute for Human Development at Northern Arizona University. SELECT provides graduate-level web courses and online learning specific to Special Education topics in Arizona. Courses are recommended for special and general education teachers, administrators, related service personnel, paraeducators, and other interested individuals including parents and community members.

SELECT courses align with Arizona teaching standards and target the growing need for highly qualified special educators and administrators in the state.  The course work is offered entirely online to accommodate those students that are unable to attend classes in a traditional setting. This allows Arizona educators to complete recertification and professional development requirements from the comfort of their own homes and offices, and when their busy schedules allow. The educators in turn, are able to apply the knowledge learned in SELECT courses directly to their classrooms.

SELECT is currently in the process of implementing self-paced modules that will satisfy the high demand for free professional development opportunities through the program. The modules are online and self-paced, and will remain free to Arizona educators.
