4th Annual African American Symposium on Disabilities

DDNN Fall 2015

The 4th Annual African American Symposium on Disabilities was held on February 27, 2015 at the Desert Willow Conference Center in Phoenix.  The Symposium was attended by more than 200 participants, including individuals from California, Maryland and Washington, DC. Symposium participants had an opportunity to attend more than twenty workshops, covering topics such as self-advocacy, special education law, employment law, autism, positive behavior supports, mental health, assistive technology, diabetes, cardiovascular care, and affordable health care act.

We were fortunate to have an opening keynote from Aaron Bishop, Commissioner of the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AIDD – which funds the DD networks in every state and US territories), and a lunch keynote from Tawara Goode, Director of the National Center for Cultural Competence at Georgetown University. Our distinguished keynote speakers also presented breakout sessions related to disability and diversity national trends.
