Arizona's Eighth Annual Transition Conference: Transforming Visions to Realities
"Arizona’s Eighth Annual Transition Conference 'TRANSFORMING VISIONS TO REALITIES' will include an exciting venue of national speakers, state level experts, and active youth participation. Also featured this year will be youth and young adult entertainment and a fabulous display of artwork. The conference will include sessions on Youth and Young Adult Empowerment, Family Voice, Community Partnerships, Legal Implications, Accessing Community Resources, Secure Care, and Assistive Technology. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The Arizona Department of Education/Exceptional Student Services, Arizona Department of Economic Security/Rehabilitation Services Administration/ Vocational Rehabilitation, and its co-sponsors are pleased to invite secondary transition-aged youth and young adults with disabilities, as well as family members of students with disabilities to apply for a scholarship to attend this year's Transition Conference.
Scholarships assist with the cost of registration fees, hotel lodging cost, or both. The application submission deadline is August 29, 2008, and scholarships will be awarded in the order in which the applications are received.

2008 National Conference on Disability Inclusion & National Service: Acting Today to Shape the Future
"With opportunities for learning, reflection and celebration, this conference will inspire current and future leaders to direct the future shape of disability inclusion in national service and enhance the ethics of service and volunteering in the disability community."

American Library Association: The Schneider Family Book Award
The Schneider Family Book Awards honor an author or illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences. Three annual awards each consisting of $5000 and a framed plaque, will be given annually in each of the following categories: birth through grade school (age 0-8), middle school (age 9-13) and teens (age 14-18). (Age groupings are approximations). The book must emphasize the artistic expression of the disability experience for children and/or adolescent audiences. The book must portray some aspect of living with a disability or that of a friend or family member, whether the disability is physical, mental or emotional. The nominated novel (fiction or non-fiction), biogaphy and/or picture book must be published during the past two(2) years. Donated by Dr. Katherine Schneider. Deadline is 1 December 2008.
